What is your mama looking for in the Halloween candy?

Not poison. She's looking for her favorite candy.

Ha, ha, I grew up with this! I'm a youth pastor now, but happily have tamed it down a bit. LOVE IT! Totally took me back to my Christian school days! ha! I once stole a Sunday School Christmas pageant and snuck out of the Hallelujah Party on Halloween, just so I could TRY trick or treating, and I never got caught! Cause God was on my side? :)

Link, I saw you hesitate while ghost riding the horse. You have to take control, be in control, while not in control. The whole concept of ghost riding a horse is being comfortable with it, playing it cool. Sure, the horse was big enough to kick you in the head so hard that your ass would've flown off like one of those desk ball clicker things, but you can't think about that. Play it cool, fool!

It does annoy me that Christians (I am a Christian, just to clarify) boycott Halloween or call it a different name, but essentially do the same thing. Although, it's roots are from the pagan Celtics, the word Halloween is not. It comes from "holy evening" and got shortened to Halloween. Holy evening is the night before All Saints Day, which was moved by the Church in the year 835 from May 13 to November 1 in order to Christianize a pagan holiday.

Hey guys. excellent job on this rhettandlinkast. I am pro-choice when it comes to celebrating Halloween. And I am FAR more annoyed by millions of Christians boycotting a holiday than I am by a kid dressing up as a ghost and asking for candy.

As a Christian I am not going to participate in any occult rituals tonight. But neither are the vast majority of the people in my city, or country. The vast majority of them are going to dress up, and for the ONLY TIME THIS YEAR interact with perfect strangers that live on their street. And so it is just rude and childish of me to close all the doors and turn off all the lights in my house and go to my church's (well meaning) harvest celebration, and thereby miss the chance to interact with all of my neighbors who don't know Christ. And it comes across to them as extremely judgmental. The fact is plain: they aren't worshiping Satan. They are asking for candy. And we treat them as if they are sacrificing babies and doing satanic chants, because we have studied the origins of Halloween, and thats what some folks did.

Dang. I got on a soapbox.

But let me make it plain that my boycotting of those church people is just as self-righteous. So I don't get off the hook either. I still need saving from my screwed up, holier-than-thou attitude.

Good thing there's a Jesus that found (and finds) the happy medium between tolerating sinful folks while at the same time not letting them off the hook.

No more soapboxing. But I did like the funny song.

I wish y'all would put the video under your rhettandlinkast menu. I can never see it in the actual blog, and now I can't see it on the menu either...and I think I'm missing out!

When it comes to Halloween, I was concerned with candy and that's IT, so I guess I'm a harvester. Who da thunk that Halloween would create such self-reflection?

I think I'm a mixture or something...
A Trick or Harvester?
A Treat Harvester?
A Harvest tricker?
Eh?

Scott - I guess you must be pretty much crapless at this time of the year then huh? I'm sure that's nice. Probably saves on the water bill. ;o)

R&L - Funny video and song guys. I personally fall on the "Harvest" side of things, but I enjoyed the good natured humor you bring to the debate. "Candy Harvesting" was a genius line! Keep it up! God bless!

I have mixed feelings about Halloween. On the one hand, the people that get super exited about it annoy the crap out of me. On the other hand, people that claim its evil annoy the crap out of me. Really, pretty much all holidays annoy me because of the over commercialization, except for good old Arbor Day.

Actually, Halloween or "all hallows eve" was an effort by long ago Christians to turn the often gory holiday into a 'holy' one by celebrating the saints, or believers in God. That they are now in heaven, etc. etc. Guess it didn't all together work.
My kids trick or treat, but just for the candy. IT'S ALL ABOUT THE CANDY!

Personally (and this is just my opinion), I don't really celebrate Halloween. It's not one of my favorite holidays. All I really do on Halloween is go trick-or-treating in an APPROPRIATE costume. I don't go big on decorating or anything.
I think it's really sad how Halloween has turned out over the past centuries. It originally started out as a holiday to celebrate the saints. Now, it has turned into a satanic holiday, where people worship the devil.

Link - Love the costume!

Rhett - I think it was really nice of you to say that you don't celebrate Halloween! Good job!

Well done. I was laughing my head off watching this movie! I am still chuckling over the images of you guys "ghost riding" horses. Very funny. Good job.

Link- I was going to be Spider-man myself, but I decided Darth Vader instead....random? Very yes.

Rhett- I know Halloween is originated from Pagen upbringings, but I think you're thinking about it too much...

oh, and who's farm are y'all on? Is that Lincoln's? Does Link's grandpa even have a farm?

I saw that clip of you "ghost-riding" a tractor on Online Nation, and I was trying to find from where it came. Now I know. By the way, who is Toby Maguire?
